I've had this camera for a few weeks and was constantly tinkering with the settings to get decent quality recording. I have a 1 Gbit wired network, with a file server that has more than adequate disk I/O. I set the camera to record a stream at 1024k bit rate, 30 fps, and quality 60. The recorded video would "freeze" every few seconds. I also tried recording to an SD card, with even worse results. Note that the settings I am using are half of the maximum supported settings (2048k bit rate) and still the quality leaves something to be desired.

I emailed the vendor, who gave a quick response, and said that in order to record I should use 15 fps, otherwise the camera CPU could not keep up. The vendor stated something to the effect that "it's a computer, and it can only do so much". Additionally, when recording, the camera should not be doing any other functions (image capture, viewing, etc).

I feel it is misleading to advertize a camera that is 30 fps, when in fact, it is impossible to capture video at that frame rate from the camera. I would have certainly paid a little more for a processor able to keep up with 30 fps.

Still, the camera deserves some praise. The functionality/features implemented exceeds the other security cameras I have (in the $100 range), and is implemented well. Integrated dynamic DNS, FTP, email, and NAS support are all appreciated. The scheduling functionality is also a great feature.

Had this unit for about 6 months. Using it with an up-to-date imac and time capsule. I have spent many, many hours trying to figure out why one minute a feature works fine and then the next minute it doesn't. Tried all the options: record to SSD card (never got that to work consistently), upload via FTP (never worked), and email alerts (worked inconsistently and never useful). I would definitely not recommend trying to use motion sensing looking out a window. Too many false alarms due to leaves moving, snow, rain, dust, etc.. Couldn't adjust the threshold and sensitivity enough before it would be blind to me walking right in front of it. Don't know if there are better systems.

I purchased one of these wifi cameras as a "pet cam" and was so impressed, I bought a second one. The installation is not the easiest nor the most difficult - I guess it depends on your level of tech expertise, and I am middle of the road to better than average. They're not exactly "plug and play" but the good news is that they have EXCELLENT customer support. You email them a question and they answer you almost immediately. For me, that was twice, including after hours and on a weekend. The features are great! You can set it up to email you alerts; you can insert a memory card to have it record snapshots at intervals or when motion is detected; you can save data to a network drive; you can go online and check the live feed. It gave us peace of mind on a recent trip out of the country to be able to check on our house and pets. Really, I have been telling everyone about it. Very cool product.
