I had used the previous version of these blades (Orange Colored M5) for a couple of years and have been able to achieve a shave as close as with the Gilette sensor, at about 1/2 the cost. It was not as close as the Fusion or Proglide, but for the cost I was satisfied. The only issue I had with it was that I could feel more drag on the blade against my skin when I used it. I noticed that costco had the newer, improved version, the Magnum 5 and decided to try it.
Upon first view, I was impressed. The blade has similar rubber grooves to the Gilette blades, and each blade is thinner and mounted so that they each move independantly, as if on springs. Otherwise the design is very similar to the previous version, with a swiveling head. When I tried it, I was less than impressed. I have a relatively thick beard and found that with the springy blades and the swivel head mechanism, there was too much movement for the blades to effectively provide a close shave. I can see how this may not be an issue for someone with a thinner beard. I believe that this is the same issue reported in other reviews. I found that it worked best when I held the back of the blade stable with my finger while shaving. This wasnt very comfortable, but I achieved a very close shave.
After looking at the design, I decided to experiment and prevented the swivel mechanism from working by placing crazy glue in the portion of the blade that allows the movement. WOW, what an improvement. The shave I now get is as close as I have had with the Fusion, maybe even as close as with the proglide power, and this is after using the blade for a week. I have no nicks, scratches or razor burn and I dont feel the drag I felt with the previous version.
I wish the manufacturer would reduce the movement in the blade head, but for now, I am very happy with the shave I am getting from the new blue Magnum 5 razor.

I had been using the Gillette Sensor (not Excel, hated those) blades since I can remember. My face seems more sensitive than others, and these blades did ok, but often irritated the skin on my neck and chin (for the latter I actually used an electric razor).
I first saw these Magnum 5 blade cartridges at CostCo and thought I'd give them a try. They work great for me. It took a little bit to get used to the floppy head, but now I really like them, and my face is in much better shape than with the excel blades. Though I typically shave every other day since I can get by with that at my work, I feel I could go back to back days with these.
Found myself a new blade!

When I first started to shave, I used a single edge safety razor. LOL Boy, that puts me back in the early 50s. Next came a double edge. Both seemed to work fine. Then I went to a Remmington electric shaver, I guess just to show I was up to date. After 3 or 4 years, I longed for my old-fashioned blade shaving. Now there were much smaller two-blade and even three-blade shavers. I stuck with the two blade, even though I was not totally convinced that they were any better than the one bladers. Well, five or six years ago, I bought a mega-mega-pack of Gillette two-blade razors and I've been using them ever since, and becoming less satisfied ever since. My main gripes have been that the blades don't cut very well and become easily clogged. My wife keeps pointing out hairs that aren't cut. My vision isn't that good but her eagle eye spots them after every shave. Then she proceeds to get her five-blade razor and tidy me up. She's urged me to try a new razor several times and finally my old two-blade supply was finished and the time had arrived.
I buy things like razors in my local Costco. So, there were a line up of mega-packs of razors and me wondering what to do. I remembered her 5 blader and started looking at them. Man, the prices were really stiff! I was amazed! I moved on down the shelf until I found the Magnum 5 blades with a price that didn't take my breath away. I decided to try them to see what they were like and then, if necessary, I could always move up to the higher priced ones.
Well, the Magnum 5 shaver and blades were excellent! The shaver cut smooth and close and there was little need to go back over shaved areas. The flexible head fit all contours of my face with ease. The blades experienced no clogging and were easy to wash clean. The trimmer gave me nice clean lines around a few critical areas with the chin beard, mustache and sideburns. Perhaps I might add that my beard is somewhat sparse, but is tough and wiry and can be difficult to shave. Well, my wife found only a couple stray uncut hairs and voiced her approval of the new shaving system. What a relief! Excellent! I'm impressed!
